This is a delightful read and I've just discovered I have a soft spot for being called a "fuckling" -- a small january win

Haha! Made me laugh. Yes, January is not really a time for new beginnings in the UK. It's cold, it's dark, it's damp and the pain of my thawing fingers following my begrudging dog walk is very real. I think June is a better time for new beginnings, when the summer is burgeoning and the new life of flora and fauna is very apparent and the odd day lulls you into thinking cardigans are out and t-shirts are in.

Out with January. In with June!

Fantastic read. Good reminder to take the early months of the year at a pace that works for me. Thank you. And I do appreciate a good nipple analogy. LOL!

The only thing I like about the "new year new you" stuff is that the middle of winter feels like a good time for contemplating, resting, and dreaming. But absolutely not for doing anything strenuous! 😉

I had to buy ski pants and gloves so I can stay warm on my daily walks outside. Yes I love my walks, but now I want to pack our clothes, throw the rest of our stuff in a dumpster, and move to someplace… literally any place… that offers warmer temperatures and sunshine. This gray everything look has gotten on my last nerve. I know north of Pennsylvania is probably worse but let me reassure you all that you will need to go much further south for sunshine and warmer temperatures. This 💩 is for the 🦆🦆🦆. Thank you for this post!!!

Oh, I feel your pain! I currently have friends who are trying to get me to attend an event the first weekend of February in Boston, and I don't think they quite understand why I am fundamentally opposed to CHOOSING to enter into winter when I don't have to.

I see a need for a personal policy against winter/cold weather trips. 😂

You read my mind! Many years ago I decided my New Years Resolution was to not make Resolutions! I live in Wyoming and our winters are brutal and long

and for me the worst time of year to make big changes is January. Yuck!

Small changes in February seem to be better and then build on that through the year. Knowing that it will still be winter here into April or May doesn't help matters. (It snows in June).

I'm sorry, it snows in....JUNE?!? This is unacceptable. Clearly we need to speak with the manager.

I was officially done with 2024 by January 16th. This month can be eliminated from the calendar, as far as I'm concerned. Living in the midwest (aka, where hell froze over this past weekend), longing for warmth and sunshine. Bah.

I honestly don't know how you Midwesterners do it. I always thought Maine was bad but then I heard from friends in Minnesota about their winters and I weep for them...

January blows. But a bright spot this year is that I was introduced to the phrase "woebegone nipples."

I think January is great to just start the new year slow, and see what happens, at the end of the day a year is made up of 12 months so why feel the pressure to kick start everything in January 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve managed to decide on my word(s) of the year (which beats any New Year’s resolutions) and is a good basis if you plan to set goals for the year, although I do find goal setting a little too corporate.

I’m all for a vision board, or even a bucket list although not got round to sorting that just yet, maybe next month 😉
